When you decide to learn Spanish, you will most likely be bombarded with many options both in the real world and online, one of which is Rocket Spanish. The biggest problem is knowing which ones are worth the effort and money and which ones probably are not for you. In order to answer that, it would help a great deal if you sit down and evaluate what your language learning goals actually are.

To speak Spanish, or any other language is not something you can do by just buying a computer program, use it, and think that you will achieve some sort of decent level with only a few days or weeks of instruction. It just doesn’t work that way. What you can do though, is to reach a decent enough level in a few weeks to get by in a restaurant or in public having a friendly conversation with someone.

Since cost is a real factor, you must have a good idea of what you are prepared to spend. The expensive route can include a Spanish tutor to give you private lessons, however this can really run into the hundreds if not thousands of dollars. The other way to go is the self-learning way. The good thing is that because of the internet and modern advances in technology, this is a very viable way to go. There are a great number of computer software programs available now, and they can stretch the complete range of possible prices. Some are very expensive, and others are not. Don’t be fooled though. Just because a Spanish learning program is cheap does not mean it is bad.

Rocket Spanish is probably the best example of this out on the market today. This program is geared toward those of you who are at a beginner level, and happen to learn better listening, sort of audio orientated. The opposite of this would be something like Rosetta Stone Spanish which is more visual in nature. With Rocket Spanish, you work with audio files which are either downloaded to your computer, or listened to while navigating a password protected part of their website. There are also volumes of written material that come along with these files. One advantage is that you can listen to your lessons in the car or even download them to your Ipod, which is something you cannot do with Rosetta Stone. You must use it on your computer. Both programs are great, it just depends on how you work best.

The price of Rocket Spanish however gives it a distinct advantage. It runs about one hundred dollars, which is a far cry to the two hundred to five hundred dollar price tag of Rosetta Stone. Because of this, it is a very good entry level product that should get you speaking Spanish nice and quick.

Some of the things that you will learn are how to introduce yourself, ordering in restaurants, and generally getting around on your vacation to Spain or Mexico.

Probably the most important factor in any language program is whether or not it can keep your interest on the long run. Boring is bad, and also a waste of money, but this product is very interesting.

Of course, the only way you will learn Spanish is by using these programs and working hard. The program can not learn for you. The trick is to work with something that will keep you interested over the long period so you can learn. Rocket Spanish will fit that bill nicely, and will not eat away at the bank account or credit card. That is a great combination.

Joseph Shalita is the owner and editor of Spanish Learning Review a website that helps you evaluate the best way to learn Spanish online where you can find helpful articles and reviews of the most poular online Spanish learning programs such as Rocket Spanish

When you decide you want to start homeschooling your children, it can be stressful at first.

Trying to choose your curriculum, buying the books you’ll need, creating your lesson plans, and planning time to teach each day is overwhelming. To stay focused, you’ll need to remember the reason why you make this decision in the first place. Keep that fresh in your mind to help you get through each day.

When you decide to homeschool, the first thing you need to do is decide which curriculum you are going to go with. Your decision will based on your child’s grade level, and also on what you want your child to learn. Take into account the way your child learns best. Some curriculums are more geared toward the visual learning while others are more appropriate for an audio learner.

You will also need to purchase your school supplies. Look at the enrichment activities, projects, and other things you may do so you can create your supply list and purchase everything you will need. You don’t want to be in the middle of a project and realize you don’t have everything you will need.

Once you receive your supplies, it’s time to build your lesson plans. Doing this early will help you down the road. You don’t want to stress because you don’t know what to teach next. Lesson plans can be created all at once before the year starts or on a weekly or monthly basis. You will want to do what works best for you. Make sure you stick to it and budget your time in if you decide to do weekly or monthly plans. You will also need

to decide what time will be set aside for school. Will you go the traditional time and go from 9 – 3 or will you have school earlier or later in the day? You will need to consider your children and see what fits them best.

While you are working on your lesson plans and your school time, remember to plan some outings too. You may need to take your children to a different location for physical education classes. You also may need to go on field trips to cover topics in Science or Math. Plan ahead if you need to make reservations or notify someone of your plans.

If this is your first time homeschooling, you might consider hiring a homeschool coach. Your coach will be able to help you through the rough times and they may also be able to help you when you run into struggles with grades or testing. It’s always nice to have someone that knows what you are going through and someone that is willing to listen and give good advice.

After the decision has been made to homeschool your children, there are several steps to take. This article gave you a general idea of what to do and how to go about it. All you have to do now is jump in and get started.

How do you offer physical education & after school sports to your homeschoolers?

Physical education is a requirement in school, but when you homeschool your children you don’t have a gym readily available. So how do you offer physical education and after school sports to your children? Here are a couple of things you can try.

One way to offer physical education to your children is to call the Boys and Girls Club in your area and see if they offer their gym to homeschoolers. If they don’t, see if they would allow you to set up a time two or three times a week and get all the homeschoolers to join you on those days. If you don’t have a Boys and Girls Club, check with any other organization that offers support to children.

Another option for physical education is to teach it yourself. You can take your children to the ice arena, roller rink, and swimming pool and teach them yourself. You can also go on a hike, take the kids to the park and teach them to play basketball, or you can take them to the soccer fields and teach them to play soccer.

You can also talk to a school in your area and ask them if your children can participate in one of their physical education classes. You need to talk to the principal of the school to see if this would be possible. You may want to talk to other homeschooling parents to see if they would be interested and take that to the principal.

Another option you might consider is to talk to a few of the churches or private schools in your community. They may consider offering a class specifically for homeschoolers or they may consider allowing you to bring your children and participate in their classes.

Look at the curriculum that you are following to see what options you have available. Dance class, karate, kick boxing, and other classes that are offered at the recreation center may qualify as part of your physical education classes.

You may be able to combine courses and cover a couple of classes at once. An example of this is go on a hike and look at rocks and flowers. This will cover both your physical education and science classes.

Another thing that your children may miss out on because they are not in a school setting is the sporting activities such as football, basketball, or track. To make this possible you will want to check with a local elementary, junior high or high school and see if they would allow your children to play.

For elementary aged students you can check with the Boys and Girls Club, recreation center or YMCA to see if they offer any type of sporting programs. Most of these organizations offer sporting events for children in K-6 grades.

Just because you homeschool your children doesn’t mean they have to miss out on physical education and after school sports. There are many options for you to consider.

When you are a homeschooling parent, it can be a challenge to teach your children subjects you are not familiar with or you don’t like to teach. For example, do you know enough about Science to teach your children all about chemicals and do experiments with them?

This can be a challenge, but it doesn’t need to be. There are a couple of solutions to your problem. These are easy fixes and something you can use year after year.

More than likely, there are other homeschooling families in your community. If you don’t have a support group set up, you should consider doing so. It is nice to have others to talk to about the challenges you may be having. Once this support group is in place you can bring it up to the group that you are facing a challenge in a certain subject. Ask if it would be possible for you to bring your children to the home of someone that is better at that subject than you are. In turn, you could do the same for others in the group that may face a similar situation with a different subject. This is usually referred to as a homeschool co-op. Some homeschooling support groups have these set up already. If not, you could initiate this in your group.

Using this support group is also good if you are having problems with one part of a subject that you are usually pretty good at.

Another option is to have your children use online courses for the ones that you are not to good at or don’t like to teach. Just because they are using the computer and taking an online course doesn’t mean they aren’t being homeschooled. You are still at their side and you are still helping them with the assignments and such. But, you don’t have to do the teaching and you don’t have to worry about teaching it in a way they will understand and hope you are teaching it correctly.

Another option is for you to send your children to a public or private school for that particular class. This may be the only option you have if you live in a smaller community and nobody else homeschools their children. This is not a bad thing either. When you acknowledge to yourself and your children that you don’t feel comfortable teaching a certain subject, you are showing them the importance of their education by finding an alternative approach. Your kids don’t have to learn everything from you just because they’re homeschooling.

One last option is to take classes yourself so that you will be able to improve your skills and feel more comfortable when you teach the subject. You want your children to succeed and sometimes improving your own skills is the only way this will happen. For many homeschooling families, learning is a way of life. Some homeschooling parents love the fact that they are able to revisit their own education while teaching their kids.

Homeschooling your children is wonderful experience for both and a great way for you to be a huge part of your children’s education. It’s also a way for you to have control of what your children are learning and for you to teach what you feel is important and a must in their education.

Kindergarten Math games are a good way to start in helping kids love math. Introducing fun math activities in school and at home can result to a much better understanding of Math.

Math is important in nurturing a child’s education. Interactive games provide teachers and parent the support they need. It enhances mathematical development and curiosity. Teachers use different materials and references in planning certain activities for classrooms. This is to make math more interesting.

Since children’s ideas are firmly based on their everyday activities and experiences, it best to adapt playing while gaining knowledge. Here are some tips to consider:

Learning Math in school

Kindergarten classrooms use the manipulative method. It is anything handed for counting will help a child to learn math concepts. This includes concrete things like puzzles, cubes, blocks and clocks.

Children are very active and they want to learn new things. Pictures grasp the attention of children. Flashcards are best options for number recognition, while puzzles help children to find out mathematical strategies. Thus, playing addition games are more exciting. It heats up group competition.

Other game samples are:

•	Triangle Number Game- Adding number and connects the answer to the side that matches it.

•	Snail One Hundred game – Learning number structure from 1 to 100.

•	Highs and Lows - A Place Value Activity

Learning Math outside

Outside games will utilize the children’s energy while learning. Do-the-Math Hopscotch is one of the outdoor educational games inspired by the book Game On by Patt Doyle. This game resembles a chalk drawing of a calculator. A player will toss a stone to a number and hops on to form an equation. One foot hops to zeros and odd numbers and 2 footed hops to even numbers and symbols. A player will continuously play until he makes a mistake or finished all the numbers to 9.

Math Games at Home

Parents should encourage kids to play along with numbers using simple materials and preparation. One can make board games using dice and pieces of cardboard with creativity. There are also ready made educational cards for those busy parents. Go Fish Cards is one example that has become popular for math reviews. It enables kids to easily identify numbers and understand the difference between more or less. The use of dominoes, chess, checkers and Yahtzee will also deepen a child’s logical ability.

Other game samples are:

•	Math Bingo- A Bingo classic game of mathematical approach.

•	Popsicle Stick Game – Focuses on child’s counting ability.

•	Two-Fisted Pennies Game –Identifies left and right positions and addition of numbers.

Math Games Online

Online learning has become the most rapid and common tool for young students. Internet math games help kids practice more and excel in math. It also reinforces math skills and concepts. Many free online games offers visual and hands-on activities such as:

1.	Number recognition

2.	Counting practices

3.	Addition/Subtraction games

Below are popular math games on line.

•	The Frog Puzzle

•	Mathematical Matches

•	Interactive 100 Square Chart

•	Flash Algebra

•	Tessellations

Number Puzzles online are:

•	Crossnumber- Adding five digits numbers to find the clue.

•	Color Quiz- Answering addition questions by coloring pictures.

•	Number Cruncher – A mathematical arcade game that uses arrows to eat numbers of a given multiple.

•	Shade – Shading the correct number to get an equal fraction.

•	Table Times – It is a simple multiplication quiz game.

Math games can be effective when linked with standard teachings. It plays a vital part in stimulating interactions. A child’s interest must be supported by teachers and parents. Thus, games are math helpers only. It is much better to attend school and study homework that can beat up the Math anxiety.

Linear equation consists of simple variables like x and y or any letter in the alphabet, along with equal signs and expressions. Each variable can either be a constant or product of a constant.

Considerations on using variables:

• Should not consist of exponents; x2

• Should not be multiplied or divided with each other; 3xy + 4.

• Should not be found under a square root sign.

Thus, linear expression is a statement used in performing certain functions of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of numbers. These mathematical components can generate an equation such as X + 3; 2x + 5; 3x + 5y.

Learning the basics is useful in solving equations. One common form is the equation; X + 2 = 5

To find the value of x, let x be equal to 1. Both sides must be equal to 5 so as to remain to be true. It must have both one correct answer. To balance the equation, both sides should use an equal sign. Terms being added to one side should be also added to the other side. This is similar in multiplying and dividing both sides of the equation.

The iterative method is being used to solve a problem by finding the exact solution, basing from an initial guess. The basic idea repeats a set of steps which will generate an approximate final answer. It contrasts direct methods which aim to solve problems via a limited sequence of operations.

The iterative method is useful in solving linear equations which involve a large number of variables. The iterative method depends on the pre-conditioners in order to improve its performance. Pre-conditioners are the transformation matrix which ensures a fast convergence in overcoming extra cost for its construction. Without it, the method may fail to converge.

The two main classes of iterative methods are:

• Stationary Iterative Method

• And the Non-stationary Method.

The Stationary Iterative Method can perform the same operation of iteration on current vectors. It solves a linear system with the use of an operator (a function which operates on another function).

It then forms a correction equation based on the error of measurement, repeating the process entirely. The Stationary Method is simple to implement and analyze but its convergence can be limited to a class of matrices (mathematical tables). It works well with sparse matrices (a matrix populated primarily with zeros) which are easy to parallelize.

The Stationary Iterative Method is one of the oldest methods. It is simple to understand although it is not as effective. Two examples of this method would include the

• Jacobi Method

• and Gauss-Seidel Method

The so-called Jacobi Method is regarded as an algorithm (sequence of finite instructions) that determines the solution in each row and column, having the largest absolute value. It solves each diagonal element and plugs in an approximate value. The process is iterated but the convergence is still slow. It is termed after Carl Gustav Jakob Jacobi, a German mathematician.

On the other hand, the Gauss-Seidel method was named after Carl Friedrich Gauss and Philipp Ludwig von Seidel. It is an improved version of Jacobi. If Jacobi converges, Gauss-Seidel converges faster. The method can be defined diagonally on matrices with non-zero values. Thus, Convergence still guarantees that the matrix can be diagonally dominant and definitely positive.

Non-stationary pertains to the recent development in our modern mathematics. It is harder to understand but it is highly effective. Non-stationary is based on sequential orthogonal vectors that mainly depend on the iteration co-efficient. Thus, it also goes with the computations involving data changes at each stage of iteration. Here are some of the method types being used:

• Conjugate Gradient Method

• MINRES and SYMMLQ

• CG on the Normal Equations

• Generalized Minimal Residual

• BiConjugate Gradient

• Quasi Minimal Residual

• Conjugate Gradient Square Method

• BiConjugate Gradient Stabilized

• Chebyshev Iteration

Talk to the big achievers & that ease zone at times expands to perhaps ten to twelve schools - “elites,” who previous year stunned us college advisors just by edging down in “lower than about 10%” admit rate. With Stanford turning thousands of valedictorians yearly and the big state schools getting tens of hundreds of apps every year, just applying to handful of schools, which everybody else is applying…is not win-win plan.

So here is a big, heartening number - there are over 1500 four year, regionally credited, residentially based, bachelor degree colleges & universities in the country. Wrapped inside lots of of those 1500 plus “traditional” scholar experiences, are stunning gems recognized as “honors experiences, and ” where small, choosy group of students will get to work with the distinguished faculty in specialized surroundings & enjoy all top sources of the college. Thanks to thousands of honors experiences all over the country, even most spirited student can cast net across lots of attractive schools & land an exceptional undergraduate education.

The honors experiences also come in various fantastic set-ups. First up are the honors colleges. Keep in mind that the universities are groups of colleges. At several schools, there is distinct honors college who has its own admissions & financial help process, prospectus, & lots more. Next are honors programs (at times referred as “scholars” courses) that can be series of particular courses, parts or major track, which is division of many academic aids at college. Finally, the honors semesters are focused experiences, frequently associated with the internships and travel. The colleges may as well have their mix-and-match adaptations of honors experience.

If you are academically aggravated student who likes stretching mind & spirit, here are few reasons why one school with honors experience fits on your college list.

Ultimate academic experience. Honors experience on any of the campus generally presents very close contact with the most important faculty members, most challenging routes, and cream of student crop.

Devoted facilities. Several honors colleges got their personal residential housing for the students. At minimum, the honors programs normally present special lounges, personal computer labs and other facilities for the honors students.

Similar price, good education. When you get accept in honors experience, you normally pay similar tuition, fees & residential bills as some other students on the campus - however you get “upgraded seat.” A few programs & colleges charge extra fees for extra sources you may access, however they have unique scholarships that will help to pay for those.

Best of worlds. Love idea of big state school knowledge? Even on largest campus, the honors experience will give you lots of benefits of smaller, and private college. A honors experience is like no other when it comes to going to class.

A hope of self-actualization. Not like some very high school classes, the college honors experiences are not about doubling the workload; they are radically expanding the worldview. You may look forward to the leadership grooming, specialized internships, service learning, field trips, advanced undergraduate research, recreational events, personal advisors, trips abroad and lots more.

Every other child has to struggle to get the right math answers. Math is difficult for most children. However, there are proven ways to help children overcome difficulties in math.

Prepare yourself early on. Try to start math learning as early as possible. Your child may be a math wiz, he just might be one of the many whose waterloo is math, or he may be somewhere in between. The earlier you know how he fares in math, the easier it will be for you. Kids good in math may only need encouraging and regular practice. On the other hand, those who are struggling will need more than that.

Maintain a positive attitude about math. Many parents hate math. If you breed this contempt against the subject, it is very likely that your child will harbor the same attitude. Try to avoid expressing this by saying how you have always flunked in math, or you have never really liked it. Instead, encourage your child to work hard and be persistent when he encounters difficult math problems. Appreciate his efforts, whether or not he get the right math answers as expected. Share his excitement when he solves a challenging problem or finally understands a math concept.

Make math an interesting, everyday routine. It is important to let your child understand the importance of math, especially in their everyday life. Point out situations where he would be likely to use math. You can start with counting plates, to measuring ingredients to making purchases at the grocery. Try to play educational games and puzzles which involve the use of math. Better yet, try to do math problems and find the answers together just for fun.

Teach him to work independently. It is very important for your child to learn to work independently especially in math. If your child does not have the genes that math wizards do, diligence will be his best shot. He should learn to persevere on his own. This will prepare him for time-consuming and challenging math problems he will surely encounter.

Instill the right mathematical reasoning. Getting at the right math answers involve a sequence of steps. If your child knows these steps by heart, there is no reason not to arrive at the right answer. The steps involve:

Knowing what information is given.

Determining what information is being asked.

Thinking of a way to get the information being asked from what is given.

Translating the problem into a mathematical equation.

Solving then checking if the answer makes sense.

It is important that you instill the virtue of reasoning and understanding more than memorizing. You should encourage him to give his own explanation of the problem. Ask him what his thoughts are on how to solve. Listen well, and comment whether or not it makes sense. Make every problem he encounters an opportunity for your child to learn something new.

Lastly, never forget to practice. As mentioned before, diligence is a very important key that will help your child breeze through each problem with the right math answers.

John runs a site called MathTrench.com, which offers thousands of solved math problems
